Brennan’s Presents for the First Time, the Bananas Foster King Cake, to kick off Mardi Gras

Celebrating its 75th anniversary in the French Quarter of New Orleans, Brennan's proudly announces the debut of the Bananas Foster King Cake – available for the first time in the restaurant’s history, which is famously known for the creation of the iconic dessert.

The culinary team has been working for over a year on developing the Bananas Foster King Cake – a delicious blend of Brioche-dough rolled with Cinnamon, Brown Sugar, and Honey - kissed with Banana Liqueur and Vanilla Extract. It is filled with a creamy Banana-flavored Filling and topped with a Butter Rum and Brown Sugar Icing, a drizzle of Milk Chocolate Icing, and crispy golden Sugar Pebbles.

Bananas Foster shares a delicious bit of New Orleans history – dating back to the turn of the century, the city was one of the first major ports of entry for Bananas from Central and South America. In the 1950s, Owen Brennan - the paternal uncle of current proprietor, Ralph Brennan - first presented Bananas Foster as a generous gift to the long-term patron, Richard Foster, a local New Orleans civic and business leader. The most ordered item on the menu, Brennan's flames 35,000 pounds of bananas each year for the famous dessert which is still prepared tableside.

The Bananas Foster King Cake joins the parade of Carnival Season confections from Brennan’s, which also offers “We Three Kings” [Traditional King Cake] - featuring Brioche-dough rolled with Cinnamon Filling and baked to a golden brown. A glaze of frosty White Icing is festively sprinkled with colored sugar in the symbolic, Mardi Gras hues of purple, green, and gold. And it will be in delicious company with the Pink Parade King Cake - a rosy-hued beauty inspired by the deep-pink façade of Brennan’s, itself. Strawberry Jam made from the fields of the Johnsdale Farm in Ponchatoula, Louisiana is folded into a light-and-airy Cream Cheese. It is covered in Pink Icing, enlivened with glitter, and topped with White Chocolate, White Chocolate Croquant Pearls, and a finishing shower of pink Cocoa Butter. Cakes are 10” X 12” and serve 15-20 people. Prices vary per King Cake.

After January 6, the additional style King Cakes will be made available for nationwide shipping.

The “wisest’ decision of all was to present three totally different flavored cakes as a nod to the symbolism of the beloved cake. The Carnival Season begins on the day of the Epiphany, and the ring-shaped confection honors the journey of the Three Wisemen, also known as the Three Kings, coming together from different lands to present gifts to the infant Jesus. And, Brennan’s regal new trio is sure to be crowned king of all cakes!
